OOXML on Hold – Blow for Microsoft

Posted by CreativeWolf on June 12, 2008

Here are few more updates on my article on India rejecting ooxml

ISO Puts Standard for Microsoft’s OOXML – News from Heise Online UK.

Here is news from Slashdot

schliz alerts us that ISO, in response to the four appeals (Venezuela, India, Brazil, South Africa) filed in recent weeks, has put the OOXML standardization process on hold. Here is ISO’s press release, which says that ISO/IEC DIS 29500 will not be published for at least “several months” while the appeals process goes forward.

Looks like all the developing nations are all set to blow up Mircosoft’s Monopoly atleast with respect to their OOXML getting standardized by ISO.

India Rejects Microsoft’s OXML

Posted by CreativeWolf on March 23, 2008

Here is news from on EFYTimes & Economic Times on India’s BIS Committee Rejecting Microsoft’s OXML.

Now thats a good move against  monopoly & treacherous computing  by Microsoft and alike.

Please refer Richard Stallman’s  essay in Free Software, Free Society: Selected Essays of Richard M. Stallman

Though there has been some amount of support that has been given by some of the Indian IT Giants, overall Microsoft had to take a slap on its face with this rejection that they were dreaming to be successful.

This rejection has lead to India voting against Microsoft’s OXML being  adopted as a standard by ISO.

I’m going to try and understand the stand of other countries that are members of the ISO in this issue.
