Recently someone had to ask me how they made any difference in my life…

I for a moment started thinking, but then something flashed in my mind…

A small story for that I once  read, may be you have read it already sometime…

Once a man was walking along a beach. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Off in the distance he could see a person going back and forth between the surf’s edge and and the beach. Back and forth this person went. As the man approached he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide.

The man was stuck by the the apparent futility of the task. There were far too many starfish. Many of them were sure to perish. As he approached the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them into the surf.

As he came up to the person he said, “You must be crazy. There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish. You can’t possibly make a difference.” The person looked at the man. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean. He turned back to the man and said, “It sure made a difference to that one!”

Story ends there…and here is my thought around it…

I probably am one of those thousands of starfishes…The guy knew that he was making a difference in those starfish’s life…

Don’t know if he looked to measure how he made the difference…I wonder if the starfish could have measured it too or is it even measurable…

Just thought its wise  to leave it for the star fish to cherish the difference…

Told them, “just know you did make a difference…I’m cherishing it”.

When its something too good, how and why to measure it and when its something bad, don’t even bother measuring it, how much ever you measure it, its bad.

Here is something I recently got to read…

Have you heard the story of the scorpion and the frog?

A scorpion wanted to cross the stream, but since he did not know how to swim, he went over to the frog and said “Why don’t you let me ride on your back. I can’t swim!”

“I can’t possibly let you do that!” said the frog. “You are a scorpion. You will sting me!”

“Oh, you stupid frog!” said the scorpion. ‘I wouldn’t possibly do that. Because if I did that, we would both drown!”

Sensing the logic on that one, and seeing an opportunity to win bragging rights for having helped a scorpion across the water, the frog agreed to take the scorpion on his back.

And when they were in the middle of the stream, the scorpion stung the frog.

“Why did you do that?” asked the frog, shocked, and quickly going down in the water.

“Because I am a scorpion! I sting…its my nature” came the reply, as both the frog and the scorpion drowned.

Good thing to remember. Just because you do a good deed to a scorpion, it’ does not mean it is going to stop him from stinging you. Scorpions are scorpions. They sting.

Guess that puts me off from the guilt of being plagiaristic.

I was recently quizzed by one of few who happens to proclaim me as their mentor.

He has recently been promoted and now handles a whole lot of people who aren’t entry level and been there in the organization for a while and he seemed to have gotten tired already of repeating instructions to folks and more with the frequency.

Here is what came to my mind:

Hear me out kid, tell me do you have the electric bore well and a over head tank in your house?

He was a little reluctant, considering the fact I sounded croaky as I just woke up from sleep.

I asked again, tell me do you have the electric bore well and a over head tank in your house?He said yes, I do.

I was thankful, the analogy that came to mind could be well related.

We all hopefully would have experienced using a bore well and a over head tank to suck water deep from the earth and store in the over head / underground tanks for daily usage.

During the initial few days, we go through the change of using a new equipment and are bound to not know to measure the requirement.

As we get used to the usage of the facility, we tend to understand the dynamics of how many minutes to use the borewell to fill the tank, how often to use to ensure constant availability of water.

Such is the case while mentoring / coaching someone, iteration & reiteration is essential.

Two questions were answered here…

1. Why should I repeat and remind someone of their responsiblity?

Would like to relate to the change management theory – Four rooms of Change by Ph.D. Claes Janssen.

As we know change is constant and during change there is always switching of one state to another involved.

Every individual during a coaching goes through change, and as a coach / mentor it’s one’s responsibility to remind and iterate the responsibility of the individual.

2. When and how to know how often to reiterate?

Its been observed and proved that higher the inspirational and renewal frequency, lower the chances of an individual going into denial or confused state.

Hence it is essential to understand the individual’s requirement and cater accordingly.

It was indeed great pondering over his question and helping cause.

Do you feel me? When I’m around and when I’m not around.

Its told that the unspoken words are precious, but I feel being felt when not around is far more precious and invaluable.

Now that brings these questions, whats the feeling like? What kind of energy do you emit? How are you being felt?

I would like to know just as curious as I’m as always, what’s my significance? whats the measurement?

Or am I looking for something that I shouldnt be looking for, too silly?

As usual in search of lucidity in my deluded, distant, far fetched, never ending, piped dreams.

Just an indicator of how I could have possibly defied one law against the another, possibly that is and it was not practically possible as one was designed to over ride another and to get over ridden.

Now, im awaiting to experience the rest that is going to happen, whether I would want it to happen or not.

Yet again its been quite some time since anything went online from my end.

Here’s whats been happening and if I had missed something, and if someone follows me and my blog – remind me if its worth to remember.

June 30th – It was almost the official last day in Kolkata – at least for now and it was indeed a little emotional.

I could feel the emptiness filled with the feeling of leaving the comfort zone – yet another to put it right – Thanks to all those who were involved.

Late that night I slept before finishing my unfinished packing saga and woke up about 5:30AM few hours before the flight to Delhi and managed to stuff it all in – Packing that is.

There were few good souls who were with me, almost all emotional as I felt, may be even more – Friends they are.

What has been an experience to quote for last 1 year and 8 months has come to an end and I was leaving yet another comfort zone.

Adios Kolkata – Will be visiting sooner.

Its been about a week since I downloaded Firefox 3 right on the release date and contribute as little as I can towards the cause of achieving Guinness record in the most downloaded software in 24 hours category – just as I pledged

Here is my first cut review about my experience so far…

I should say, so far so good, indeed too good.

Couple of features that caught my immediate attention are…

The way the buttons and tool bar has been redesigned, its phenomenal.

Now I don’t need to download a plug-in to manage my tabs for next time use – Firefox neatly asks if I want to save and quit – I love that built in!!!

And the title tag being displayed in the address bar for previously visited websites – That’s nifty!

I’m not going to go in to other security features and updates right now – may be sometime later.

After the successful technically first Open Source Movie project Orange’s Elephants Dream Blender Team has come up with Peach’s Big Buck Bunny this time and they call it “funny and furry”.

Beauty of this movie is…not just the whole movie is made with blender an open source 3D animation kit, the content of the movie is free to use for people to learn and benefit out of it.

You can download the 10 minute movie from their website for free!

Will try and write a review of the movie once I watch – currently its downloading
